What is Fine Art Portraiture?

Fine art photography, also known as “photography art,” or “artistic photography” is photographic artwork created in line with the artist’s vision. Fine Artists use photography as their chosen medium for creative expression. 

Fine art photographs express an innovative idea, emotion, or message which is unique to the artist. They do not serve a commercial purpose and are the opposite of documentary photography. (credit Eden Gallery)

For me, it goes a little deeper. When looking at art, one should connect to it. There should be something in that fine art portrait that evokes an emotional response regardless of what that response is.  Although we tend to gravitate to fine art portraits that don't evoke anger but anger is a response.

When choosing a fine art piece for your home or business, you should choose something that evokes the emotion you want others to feel when they look at the fine art piece. If it doesn't, it will produce intentional conversation around the fine art piece and everyone leaves the conversation with a different perspective.
